214 days before their meeting on Wednesday, St. Louis City2 and North Texas SC faced off in the Western Conference Finals of the 2024 MLS Next Pro Playoffs. North Texas was victorious 3-0 over City2, and in their first meeting since, City2 looked to exact some long-overdue revenge.
Frequent first-team defender Jay Reid played in the mid-week fixture, City SC Interim Head Coach David Critchley explaining that Reid chose to play in the match when prompted. Reid would go on to play the full match, recording one assist, a solid performance. However, this appearance may limit his usage in the first team's fixture on Sunday, as the defensive left side is already weakened following the Red Card Suspension given to Conrad Wallem, and the soon-to-depart Jannes Horn's time in City Red is limited.

Hackworth had a 67% win percentage during his first City2 tenure, making him one of the best MLS Next Pro coaches in recent history. He continued his amazing track record with a 2-0 revenge win over North Texas SC on Wednesday night, getting even with the reigning MLS Next Pro Champions.
City2 now sits atop the Western Conference with 23 points, joined only by Ventura County SC with the same tally of 23 points, both clubs with a record of 7 wins, 1 draw, and 4 losses.
