Ahoy Matey, today’s stat of the day is none other than Clean Sheet Percentage.
Per JobsInFootball.com, “In soccer, a clean sheet is when a team concedes zero goals in a match. It's as simple as that! If you stop the opposition from scoring throughout an entire soccer game, you've successfully kept a clean sheet. If your opponents score, even if it's a sloppy goal in the 90th minute, your clean sheet record is gone.”
Leading all of Major League Soccer in Clean Sheet Percentage is Vancouver Whitecaps Goal Keeper and MLS All-Star Yohei Takaoka with a baffling 43.5%. Of his starts being Clean Sheets. Some other notable names in the top ten include Hugo Lloris, Dayne St. Clair, Andrew Rick, Joe Willis, Brad Stuver, Pedro Gallese, and Andre Blake.
For my #AllforCITY readers, here's how Roman Burki and Ben Lundt compare to the league’s best. Roman sits at a below-average 21.4 Clean Sheet Percentage, while Ben “Big Ben” Lundt is just a bit better at 22.2%
Thank you for reading today’s Summer of Stats article! Tomorrow I’ll switch gears from GoalKeeping in favor of some team-focused stats to see how St. Louis has been as a squad this year, beyond the table.
