Today’s stat is similar to that of 7/12, with one noticeable change. The first day of “Stat Summer” was focused on Expected Goals, or xG. However, today I'll talk about Non-Penalty Expected Goals, or NPxG. Per Andysbetclub.co.uk, “Non-Penalty Expected Goals (NPxG) is a variation of the standard Expected Goals (xG) metric that measures the likelihood of a shot resulting in a goal but excludes penalties. It provides a more accurate assessment of a player or team’s scoring potential from open play or set pieces like corners and free kicks, without the distortion caused by penalty shots. Penalties typically have a much higher xG value (around 0.75–0.80). Therefore, NPxG helps isolate the ability of a team or player to create scoring chances without the aid of these high-probability penalty kicks.”
As of 7/15, Hugo Cuypers leads all of Major League Soccer in Non-Penalty Expected Goals, closely followed by Sam Surridge.
As of July 15, Simon Becher leads St. Louis City SC in Non-Penalty Expected Goals with 6.5; however, not far behind is Joao Klauss with 6.3. Marcel Hartel and Cedric Teuchert rank third with 3.6 each.Tomorrow I’ll speak about Possession Percentage. Stay Tuned!
