Yesterday, I covered Average Possession Percentage; today, I'll cover Passing Completion Percentage.
According to northeastrush.com, “A completed pass occurs when the passed ball goes directly to a teammate without it being touched by an opposing player. The pass completion rate (or percentage) is a common way to evaluate passing performance. The PCR is calculated by dividing the number of completed passes by a player or team by the total number of pass attempts.”
There are 3 main categories of passes according to FBref.com, Short, which is defined by passes between 5 and 15 yards, Medium, which is defined by passes from 15 to 30 yards, and Long, which is defined as passes longer than 30 yards. St. Louis City SC’s leaders in these categories, and those who have more than 50 pass attempts in each category, are as follows;
Short - Henry Kessler: 128 short pass attempts with a 96.9% completion rate.
Medium - Roman Burki: 186 medium pass attempts with a 97.3% completion rate
Long - Henry Kessler: 52 long pass attempts with a 73.1% completion rate.
Thank you for reading today’s installment of the Summer of Stats. Tomorrow I'll post about Goals per 90. Stay Tuned!
