Howdy, It’s that time of the day! Today’s Stat is Save Percentage. This, of course, relates to Goalkeepers, the first stat I've covered to do so.

The NCAA defines a save as the following: “A save is awarded to a goalkeeper only if a shot otherwise would have gone into the goal. A goalkeeper can be credited with a save without catching the ball. If the goalkeeper blocks the ball or punches it wide or over the goal, that goalkeeper can be credited with a save, provided the ball would have otherwise gone into the goal. To receive a save, the play must be a shot on goal. A goalkeeper cannot receive credit for a save on a cross.” And to find save percentage, you take the amount of saves and divide it by the amount of shots on goal.

Portland Timbers GK James Pantemis leads MLS in Save% % with 78.1%, in second is Austin’s Brad Stuver, and he’s followed by Dayne St. Clair of Minnesota United.

St. Louis City has one of the best Goalkeepers in MLS in Roman Burki, and he ranks 13th in the league in Save% with 71.7%.

Stay tuned as I’m writing about more Goalkeeping stats tomorrow!
