Hello readers! You made it through the grueling Monday to start the week. Now sit back, relax, and get ready to learn about today’s stat. Today’s topic is Shots on Target per 90, or SoT/90 for short.

Per Sports Illustrated, “In soccer, a shot on target is any deliberate attempt to score that is stopped by the goalkeeper or blocked by an outfield player who is the last line of defense. Additionally, all goals count as shots on target. Shots that get deflected or blocked before they make their way to the goalkeeper are not shots on target. Scoring chances that sail over the crossbar or go wide also do not count as shots on target. Instead, they are recorded as shots off target.”

Formerly known as the San Jose Clash, the San Jose Earthquakes lead all of Major League Soccer in Goals on Target per 90 with an average of 5.44 SoT/90 through 25 matches played thus far. Second is the Chicago Fire with 5.37, followed by FC Cincinnati, which sits in third with 5.27 SoT/90

For all you “City Slickers” and superfans of St. Louis City Soccer Club, here's how they sit among all 30 MLS Clubs.

STL City SC is 21st in Shots on Target per 90 thus far in the 2025 MLS Regular Season with 3.96 SoT/90, which, may I add, is better than Sporting Kansas City’s tally of 3.54.

Thank you for reading today’s installment of the Summer of Stats!
